The time is finally here to review my most anticipated game of the year, Astral chain.Today i'll be looking at Platinum Games's newest title coming out exclusively for nintendo switch and to see if it's worth picking up and how much I like i-Chill, I know I havent done a review since I migrated to this account, and I know I promised a Bayonetta 2 review but for the love of god, get off of me, it'll come in due time.Which means I will refrain from talking about spoilers for the story, mechanics and any legions that pop up after the tutorial and chapter 1 and overall anything that i think should stay hidden to make the main experience stay fresh.Released for Nintendo Switch, Astral chain is the latest title from platinum games and one of the biggest titles this year, i can't really tell you if it'll win awards and stuff yet, but when it happens i'll keep it updated, same with sales goals and other cool stuff, so yeah bit of an awkward way to end it off....Lets continue...You take the role of the mc, (which can be either boy or girl up to you and customized how you want, as it wont really affect the story) who is the twin of the character you didnt pick, and today is your lucky day as you become the newest rookies of the local police force, fighting as one with your Legion to defeat the chimera in hopes of one day completely wiping them from reality and restoring peace.Again if you would like to read more in to the story and lore, that wont be found here and I suggest going somewhere else.I'll be dividing this to review each gameplay aspect, rather than mashing it up.So to start with, the combat is Platinum's trademark "combo then end with a chain/special attack" battle system and as always, I love it, now the combat overtime does obviously get more in depth and fleshed out and it slowly starta becoming amazing with what you can do.You can choose to either fight by yourself or with your legion and dont worry, it feels perfectly fine the way they optimized it so you are fighting using both, you can do other things like strap chimera's to the ground using your chain, stop enemies that are charging at you etc, the expanding options dont stop.Now one thing that I didn't expect going in and I am actually really in love with, are the puzzles.Over the course of the game you will experience a lot of these when going to the chimera's dimensions, you'll do things like use panels to make platforms activate, move stuff around in to the right spot to continue going, fix things and put stuff together etc and they arent lazily made puzzles, they actually are really smart and fun.Making you think of how to get away with doing certain things or how to get to platform B from platform A without losing the thing your moving etc.Now its funny cause there are only like 2 or 3 of these and I feel I need to point it out still.So you may have already seen but you begin your adventure by riding your bike through a tunnel having to shoot any chimera in your way, now while this part of the gameplay isnt exactly "fleshed out", it is still fun to play around with.Being able to dodge things, slide, shoot stuff etc, there's a lot of action going on and not at an unreasonable pace, unlike some games.Now i haven't gotten around to looking up and listening to the soundtrack but my god is it astounding, probably my 2nd or 3rd favorite soundtrack on the switch library, next to octopath traveler and arguably, Smash Ultimate.I've never been good with expressing what I love about soundtracks and what makes them good to me, but I guess this time around not only is it specific songs, but the timing and where certain songs are placed, just makes each scene beautiful and worth experiencing.Now don't get me started on the fucking art and aesthetics, one of the things that has had me hooked on this game is how amazing this game looks and it doesn't disappoint at all.You thought the switch hardware would wear it down, oh no believe me, its far from that. The game’s tone bounces about just as swiftly. Eligible for up to points Add to Wish List On Wish List. Also at headquarters: a person claiming to be the toilet fairy, hiding inside a bathroom stall, begging me to collect sanitary wipes while I’m out and about.The tension between those two emotions may be part of the point.
